Welcome, we are The Peace family, Grania, Henry and our two daughters. We live in the house next door to the Cottage with our two dogs. We renovated our barn to create this beautiful cottage, which was finished in late 2018. The roof was replaced and the floors were dug up, so we really did start from scratch! We have left some of the walls unplastered to expose the character stonework, containing hundreds of tiny fossils. We have lived in Rutland all our lives, so know the area and what's going on and when! For those who enjoy their history Barleythorpe is famous for it's late resident, Lord Lonsdale - The Yellow Earl, who owned the whole village. He is associated with the Lonsdale belt and the phrase, "painting the town red," which is exactly what he did to Melton Mowbray one night with a group of friends! An account of his story and further information can be found in the book, 'The Yellow Earl' by Douglas Southerland.
The cottage is the only holiday let in the yard, so your stay will be in the entire property that you can see in the photographs. It has a comfortable king room with an en suite at one end and a snug twin room at the other - where there is a further family bathroom. The main living is open plan with a well equipped kitchen, an eating area and a light and cosy sitting room with a large smart television. The cottage is suitable for no more than 4 guests, any further guests will be asked to find alternative accommodation.
The yard is secluded and quiet with a patio area for guests use and there is off road parking for cars. We have undercover storage for bikes, left at the owners own risk. Please contact us for any more information and we will respond promptly boltonscottage@gmail.com
We are happy to accept small, well behaved dogs on request.
We ask that check in is not before 3pm and that you check out by 10.30am to ensure we have plenty of time to throughly clean the cottage between guests.
